Hee sued over alleged pepper spray incident

June 26, 2009

IPOH, 26 June 2009: Aulong assemblyperson Yew Tian Hoe today filed a suit against Perak deputy speaker Hee Yit Foong for allegedly attacking him with a pepper spray canister at the state legislative assembly last month.

He is seeking, among others, aggravated and exemplary damages, as well as cost, interest and other reliefs deemed fit by the court, and an injunction to restrain Hee or her worker or agent from abusing, threatening or assaulting him in whatever way.

Hee
The writ of summons was filed through Messrs Leong & Tan at 11am at the Ipoh High Court Registry here.

In the statement of claim, Yew said Hee had threatened and attacked him with pepper spray to his face, especially his left eye, when they were at the state legislative assembly in the Perak state secretariat building on Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab here on 7 May.

The incident happened in front of other assemblypersons, and as a result, he suffered pain and injury to his left eye, mental shock and trauma, loss of dignity, humiliation, public shame and mental distress, he said.

Yew also alleged that Hee was not remorseful and had lied to the media by saying that the pepper spray canister was a hotel keychain or a pen drive before admitting that the device was actually a pepper spray canister.

He said Hew had refused and failed to apologise despite being given the opportunity, and he alleged that her conduct was cruel and with malicious intent.

Yew had lodged a report over the incident at the Taiping police station. — Bernama

This suit, filed by the assemblyperson, aka Ah Choo, should be taken seriously and not be sneezed at.

Our assemblymen and assemblywomen are playing masak-masak in the state assembly. What good do you expect them to do? Pepper spray canister? Hotel key chain? Pen drive? What else do you have to show before the court? If I am the judge, I will allow them to spray pepper with each other like children playing with water guns, see who wins and is admitted to hospital? It is really fun, isn’t it? Well done, Hee.

Why waste time and money? Knowingly that the court will always side the people that walk the corridors of power. More so when they are trying with whatever means to ensure that no by-election be held. You think they want to see or let the court find this Hee guilty and a by-election held? No lahhhh … Don’t dream of the impossible!
