Zambry: All storm victims will get aid

June 1, 2009

BAGAN DATOH, 1 June 2009: The state government will channel aid and assistance to all storm victims here and in Manjung, regardless of their political beliefs, Barisan Nasional-installed Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir said today.

“As such, we hope that the Opposition will not manipulate the issue for their political interest,” he told reporters after visiting storm victims here.

A total of 250 houses here and another 100 in Manjung were ripped apart by the storm early Saturday, resulting in losses of over RM1 million.

Zambry said all government departments and agencies have been instructed to collect information and channel immediate aid and assistance to the victims.

“A special aid centre for the victim has also been set up with cooperation from the district office and the Social Welfare Department to speed up the aid-giving process and ensure that house repairs are carried out immediately and transparently,” he said.

Most of the houses were damaged by fallen trees while the roofs were blown away by the storm. However, no one was injured. — Bernama
