Umno Youth: Phantom voters in Permatang Pasir

[get_post_meta single=1 key="byline"] | August 17, 2009 2 Comments

BUTTERWORTH, 17 Aug 2009: Umno Youth has claimed the existence of phantom voters in the Permatang Pasir state constituency which will be having a by-election on 25 Aug.

Its chief Khairy Jamaluddin said he had received reports on a number of Malay Malaysian voters whose listed home addresses were actually occupied by Chinese Malaysian families and vice-versa.

Khairy, who had earlier chaired an Umno Youth meeting here, said last night he would gather enough evidence and bring up the matter with the Election Commission for further action.

He said since the last general election, there were 1,000 more voters registered in Permatang Pasir which he regarded as abnormal.

The nomination of candidates for the by-election was held this morning. The seat will see a straight fight between Rohaizat Othman, 38, who is the Barisan Nasional candidate from Umno, and Mohd Salleh Man Mat Aji, 52, who is the PAS candidate.

The Permatang Pasir seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent Datuk Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman of PAS from a heart ailment on 31 July. — Bernama

With Umno as the underdogs, it’s comical to see them using similar allegations as Pakatan in the past.

Since they cannot win, it is better for them to put the blame on “phantom voters”. Logically, how can this happen when the election itself is governed by the BN government?
