New village projects will be expedited

March 30, 2009

SUNGAI PETANI, 30 March 2009: The Housing and Local Government Ministry will expedite projects meant to upgrade infrastructure in 157 new villages nationwide, said its minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan.

He said the under the Second Stimulus Package announced recently, the government had allocated RM30 million for the purpose.

Ong told this to reporters when visiting MCA’s elections operations room for the Bukit Selambau by-election in Taman Ria here today.

He said the projects would be carried on a gotong-royong basis by residents of the new villages and that no contractors would be involved

This was to ensure the grassroots obtained maximum benefit from the allocation, he said, adding that most of the projects would be building tarred roads, resurfacing existing roads and upgrading drainage.

Polling for the Bukit Selambau by-election is on 7 April. — Bernama
