DAP to field more Malays in next GE

January 17, 2009

SITIAWAN, 17 Jan 2009: The Perak DAP intends to field more Malay Malaysian candidates including Islamic scholars in the next general election, Perak DAP chairperson Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham said today.

He said the political trend in the country had changed tremendously and showed that DAP continued to be accepted by voters, especially the Malay Malaysians.

“In the 1990s, voters especially Malay Malaysians were scared of DAP to the extent of taking it out on the party’s flag and posters.

“But everything has changed now. Malay Malaysian voters are eager to register as DAP members and set up new branches, in which they are the majority members,” he told reporters after the launch of the Kampung Ayer Tawar DAP branch, here.

During the event, the Kampung Ayer Tawar DAP branch protem chairperson, Ahmad Ikram Abdul Karim, 45, submitted 53 membership applications, comprising of Malay Malaysian men and women. — Bernama
