Fairus to explain resignation soon

March 23, 2009

PENANG, 23 March 2009: Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin said he would hold a press conference soon to explain his resignation from the post and as state executive councillor.

He said he would answer all questions on his resignation and expressed disappointment over media reports that he had not been carrying out his responsibilities effectively as DCM I and state exco member.

“Who said that I have not been doing my work and have not looked after the welfare of the Malays in Penang? I am saddened by the allegations thrown at me by various quarters which have tarnished by good name and my family’s,” he told Bernama when contacted, here, today.

On 21 March, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng announced that Mohammad Fairus would quit as DCM I and state exco member effective 8 April, but would remain as Penanti assemblyperson and PKR member.

The next day, the media quoted Mohammad Fairus, who is state Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development, Information and Community Relations Committee chairperson, as saying that he was the victim of a conspiracy within PKR but declined to elaborate. — Bernama
