T’ganu provides RM1 million fund for bus companies

KUALA TERENGGANU, 7 Jan 2009: The Terengganu government will provide a RM1 million fund for bus companies operating in the state to buy new vehicles to facilitate more comfortable public transportation.

Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said said half the amount would be given in the form of grants and the rest, as capital.

“We will monitor several bus companies before approving the fund for them,” he said after closing a seminar on forming the Yayasan Masjid Malaysia here today.

Also present was Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator Datuk Dr Mashitah Ibrahim.

A total of 2,500 imams and bilals from 483 mosques throughout Terengganu attended the event. Each was given a monthly allowance of RM650.

In another development, Ahmad said the state government would give an additional four buses to the Cas Ligas Sdn Bhd bus company which operates in the town for free.

“The company used to operate with only two buses. Now, they have six buses and will operate as far as the Sultan Mahmud Airport for free,” he said. — Bernama
