NS training modified for Ramadan

SANDAKAN, 28 Aug 2008: The training at all National Service (NS) training centres have been modified so as not to burden Muslim trainees from carrying their religious obligations during Ramadan next month, National Service Training Department (JLKN) Director Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang.

He said it would be the first time that Muslim trainees would be fasting during Ramadan while undergoing NS training. Ramadan begins on 1 Sept when the trainees are in their final week of training.

There would be less physical activities during the period, he told reporters after the closing of a technical course by Youth and Sports Ministry Deputy secretary General (Management) Muhammad Batri here today.

Abdul Hadi said there were currently 15,000 NS trainees at the 85 training centres nationwide. Their training ends on 6 Sept.

On today’s course, Abdul Hadi said, it was attended by 70 participants from JLKN and the Youth and Sports Department. – Bernama
