Malaysians advised to avoid rallies in Bangkok

KUALA LUMPUR, 3 Sept 2008: Malaysians in Bangkok have been advised to avoid rally grounds in the Thai capital as the situation may change instantly and without warning.

In giving the advice, Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim said Malaysia was concerned with the well-being and safety of Malaysian citizens in Bangkok following the announcement of a state of emergency in Bangkok yesterday due to the public disturbances there.

The Malaysia embassy in Bangkok was in constant contact with Malaysians in Bangkok, he said in a statement here today.

"They have been advised to be vigilant to situations around them and to continuously monitor developments in Bangkok," he said.

The ministry would also continue to monitor the situation there. – Bernama
