2009 electoral rolls on display tomorrow

PUTRAJAYA, 21April 2009: The Election Commission (EC) will display for a week from tomorrow the supplementary electoral rolls for the first quarter of this year at 994 places nationwide.

EC Public Relations Officer Sabri Said advised those who had registered as voters and those who had applied for a change of address to check the rolls.

Voters who did not find their names on the rolls could submit a claim on the relevant form to the state election director within seven days of the display of the rolls, he said in a statement.

He said the names of voters to be removed from the rolls due to death and revocation of citizenship or those of retired soldiers and police who no longer qualified to be postal voters would also be displayed.

Sabri asked next-of-kin of voters who had died to notify the EC by sending a copy of the death certificate or burial permit by mail or fax or in person to any state EC office or the EC headquarters in Putrajaya.

Sabri said electors were also encouraged to check the 2008 Main Electoral Rolls for any mistake such as in the spelling of the name, IC number or gender so that they could be corrected.

“If there is any mistake, they can send the amendment via email to [email protected] or come personally to any state EC office or the EC headquarters in Putrajaya,” he said.

“People who need further information can contact the EC headquarters at 03-8885 6500 or any EC office,” he added.

Sabri said the EC had registered 53,512 voters in the first quarter of this year. — Bernama
