Two men to hang for murder

January 9, 2009

KUALA LUMPUR, 9 Jan 2009: A shipping officer was sentenced to death by the High Court here today after he was found guilty of murdering his girlfriend.

Rusman Sulaiman, 42, was charged with killing 36-year-old Sheeren Liau Ee and setting fire to her body in room number 321, Paramour Villa Hotel, Lebuh Turi, off Persiaran Raja Muda Musa, Klang, on 3 Feb 2002.

Justice Datuk Muhammad Ideres Muhammad Rapee said the defence, represented by lawyer V Ayasamy, had failed to cast reasonable doubt on the prosecution’s case.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin had told the court that Rusman, who is married and has two children, had had a quarrel with Sheeren after she asked him to divorce his wife.

In the same court, welder Sum Yat Loy, 50, was also sent to the gallows for murdering his wife, Khee Ah Chai, 41, in their house, No. 4 Lorong CP 2/12, Taman Cheras Perdana, Hulu Langat, at 6.30pm on 16 Feb 2002.
