KUALA LUMPUR, 2 MARCH 2009: DAP chairperson Karpal Singh said today that even though Parliament has its own security force, police should not limit their responsibilities to only beyond the grounds of Parliament.
The Bukit Gelugor Member of Parliament said, “As long as something happens outside the chamber, it is the duty of the police to take action.”
According to Karpal, the individuals who swarmed and surrounded him on 26 Feb in the Parliament building could be charged.
“Obstructing an MP from carrying out his duty is a very serious offence,” he said, when commenting on a statement by Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Wira Mohammad Sabtu Osman on 27 Feb that the Parliament compound was not the police’s responsibility. — Bernama
