Manikumar appointed state exco member

April 13, 2009

ALOR SETAR, 13 April 2009: S Manikumar who won the Bukit Selambau state seat by-election on 7 April, was today appointed state executive councillor in charge of domestic trade and consumer affairs.

He filled the portfolio left vacant by former state exco member V Arumugam from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) who had resigned as Bukit Selambau assemblyperson.

Manikumar will also be in charge of Siamese and Indian affairs, plantation workers and unity.

Manikumar, 35, earlier took his oath of office before the Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah, before the investiture ceremony held in conjunction with the Sultan’s 81st birthday, at Istana Anak Bukit, here.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak, Speaker Datuk Dr Abdul Isa Ismail, all the other state exco members and senior state government officials were among those present.

In the by-election on 7 April, Manikumar beat the BN challenger, Datuk S Ganesan, and 13 independent candidates. — Bernama
