Kelantan Sultan wants people to respect constitution

March 30, 2009

KOTA BARU, 30 March 2009: The Sultan of Kelantan, Tuanku Ismail Petra ibni Almarhum Sultan Yahya Petra today called on the people to respect the national constitution and understand the principles of the Rukun Negara.

In addition, he said all the races must appreciate the social contract which had been agreed upon for so long.

“This is crucial to ensure continued peace and harmony in the country,” he said when delivering his speech in conjunction with his 59th birthday celebration at the Istana Balai Besar, here today.

His Highness said everyone must act according to the law and any interpretation of the law should be left to those who were truly responsible or authorised.

Also present at the ceremony were the Raja Perempuan Kelantan, Tengku Anis Tengku Abdul Hamid, Tengku Mahkota Kelantan Tengku Mohamad Faris Petra, Menteri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat and other state dignitaries.

A total of 102 people received state awards and medals at the ceremony.

Heading the list of recipients was Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who was the sole recipient of the Ahli Yang Kehormat Yang Pertama (Seri Paduka) Bagi Darjah Kebesaran Jiwa Mahkota Kelantan Yang Amat Mulia (SJMK). — Bernama
