Hishamuddin: SMS rumours on Najib false

April 2, 2009

SUNGAI PETANI, 2 Apr 2009: The public should disregard SMS-es that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong will not approve Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s appointment as prime minister tomorrow, said Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishamuddin Hussein.

He said the SMS-es were baseless.

“Remember, there were SMS-es claiming the Barisan Nasional (BN) federal government would fall due to mass defections on 16 September 2008, but we all know what actually happened,” he said at a press conference today.

He said those who circulated such SMS-es about Najib were trying to confuse citizens.

Such claims also aimed to manipulate the monarchy and could be regarded as traitorous, he said.

“Wait until tomorrow and we’ll see what the truth is,” he said.

Hishamuddin said that therefore, a victory for the BN in Bukit Selambau would be a victory for Najib as the new Umno president and incoming prime minister.

Hishamuddin was speaking at the launch of the Taman Ria Utara Wanita BN election machinery.

Also present was newly-elected Wanita Umno chief, Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil.

Shahrizat said that the K-10 strategy, in which Wanita chiefs from each BN component party tries to canvass votes from 10 households or families, was working very well.

The launch was attended by approximately 70 Wanita members and supporters of the BN component parties.
