Govt ready to face issues: Nazri

February 16, 2009

KUALA LUMPUR, 16 Feb 2009: The government is ready to face issues raised by the opposition in the Dewan Rakyat, including the formation of the  Perak Barisan Nasional government, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz.

“I don’t have a clue on the issues to be raised by the opposition but the government is prepared to face them,” he told reporters after the opening of the second session of the 12th Parliament by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin here today.

On the decision by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Azlan Shah to sack Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin and the state executive council (exco) members on 5 Feb, Nazri said it was a correct move as the sultan was once the Chief of Justice, then called the Lord President.

“We must remember that the Sultan of Perak was the Chief of Justice 25 years ago. He is a meticulous person and does everything based on the law,” said the Padang Rengas member of parliament (MP).

Asked about Tuanku Mizan’s advice that MPs show examplary conduct in parliament, Nazri said he would ask Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia to remind them before the sitting convenes.

“We have to be courteous and refrain from uttering crude words. The fact that the Agong spoke on this shows that it is a serious matter and I hope the MPs will take heed,” he said. — Bernama
