Former Bukit Tambun assemblyperson’s wife stabbed to death

September 23, 2008

PENANG, 23 Sept 2008: The wife of a former Bukit Tambun state assemblyperson died after being stabbed in the chest and abdomen in the compound of her house in Taman Tambun Indah, Simpang Ampat, near here last night.

Thor Joo Lee, 44, the wife of Lai Chew Hock, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Loh Guan Lye Hospital here at 12.15am today.

Penang police chief Datuk Ayub Yaakob said she had just driven home from the petrol station that she owned in Simpang Ampat at 11.40pm when she was attacked.

“Initial information showed that she was tailed by four men on two motorcycles. One of them is believed to have entered the compound and stabbed her with a sharp weapon,” he told reporters at the hospital.

He said Lai, who was on the first floor of the house, ran to the balcony when he heard the car horn and his wife’s screams and saw a man seated on a motorcycle.

“Lai shouted at the man before running downstairs but when he got to the compound the man was gone and he found his wife lying unconscious in a pool of blood,” he said.

Ayub said Lai took his wife to the Loh Guan Lye Hospital but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Seberang Perai Selatan district police chief Supt Shafien Mamat, when contacted, said the investigation was still going on at the scene with the help of the forensic unit and tracker dogs.

Police were looking for the motive and viewing the tape from the closed-circuit TV at Thor’s petrol station, he said.

Meanwhile, a distraught Lai, who was at the scene, offered a RM50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of his wife’s killer. – Bernama
