EC meeting on status of PKR duo

February 2, 2009

PUTRAJAYA, 2 Feb 2009: The Election Commission (EC) will meet tomorrow to determine the status of two Perak assemblypersons, Capt (R) Mohd Osman Jailu and Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi, who were reported to have vacated their seats.

EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the meeting would discuss various aspects, including the legal perspective since there were obvious contradictions in the matter to the extent of creating confusion.

“I have not received the resignation letters mentioned because the office is closed for the holiday (Federal Territories Day) but I have contacted Perak EC director Ahmad Adli Abdullah, who informed me that he has received the resignation letters of the two assemblymen and also letters denying their resignation,” he told Bernama here today.

Yesterday, Perak legislative assembly speaker V Sivakumar said in a statement that he received resignation letters from Jamaluddin, who is Behrang assemblyperson and Osman of Changkat Jering, at his house at 5.45pm and would declare the seats vacant.

The two assemblypersons from Parti Keadilan Rakyat, however, later denied vacating their seats and called Sivakumar’s statement a lie. — Bernama
