Dewan Rakyat adjourns after 45-day sitting

December 18, 2008

KUALA LUMPUR, 18 Dec 2008: The Dewan Rakyat adjourned sine die today after sitting for 45 days from 18 Aug, during which it passed 17 bills.

Eleven other bills, which were scheduled for second and third reading, would be carried forward to the next meeting.

Of the 17 bills passed, seven were new bills and 10 amendment bills.

The approved bills are:

* Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Bill 2008

* Judicial Appointments Commission Bill 2008

* Education (Amendment) Bill 2008

* Universities and University Colleges (Amendment) Bill 2008

* Supply Bill 2009

* Labuan Offshore Financial Services (Amendment) Bill 2008

* Geologists Bill 2008

* Supplementary Supply Bill (2007) 2008

* Judges Remuneration (Amendment) Bill 2008

* Pension (Amendment) Bill 2008

* Statutory and Local Authorities Pensions (Amendment) Bill 2008

* National Kenaf and Tobacco Board Bill 2008

* Supplementary Supply Bill 2008

* Pensions (Amendment) (No 2) Bill 2008

* Statutory and Local Authorities Pensions (Amendment) (No 2) Bill 2008

* Pensions Adjustment (Amendment) Bill 2008

* Judges Remuneration (Amendment) (No 2) Bill 2008

Among the bills to be carried forward to the next meeting are the Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) Identification Bill, National Service Training (Amendment) Bill, Judges’ Ethics Committee Bill and Witness Protection Bill. — Bernama
