Building collapse: fourth body retrieved

May 29, 2009

PETALING JAYA, 29 May 2009: The death toll from the collapsed building which was formerly the Jaya Supermarket in Section 14, here has risen to four.

The fourth victim, who was identified as Anuaruddin, 38, was taken out from the rubble at 4.07pm today.

The body of the first victim was retrieved from the site at 6.50pm yesterday while the second victim was retrieved at 10.20pm last night and the third at 2pm today.

Petaling Jaya OCPD, ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed said the fourth victim was found under the excavator near the body of Muhamad Maskur, the third victim.

Also found on the deceased was a pouch bag containing his documents and passport, Arjunaidi said.

Anuaruddin’s remains were sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) for an autopsy, he said.

He said the search and rescue operation for three more victims, who were believed to be trapped under the rubble following the collapse of the building at 5pm yesterday, would be continued.

Arjunadi today clarified that the first victim was identified as Alsuki Nahru, 58, the second had yet to be identified while the third victim was identified as Muhamad Maskur, 31.

It was earlier reported that the first victim was identified as Maskor, 28.

The Counselor (Information and Public Relations) at the Indonesian Embassy here, Widyarka Ryananta, said the bodies of all the Indonesian workers found at the site of the collapsed building would be sent home after the autopsy and documentation process.

“We will monitor the situation from time to time and will inform the families of the victims concerned,” he said. — Bernama
