Ahmad Ramzi out on police bail

May 13, 2009

KUALA TERENGGANU, 13 May 2009: Datuk Dr Ahmad Ramzi Mohamad Zubir, political secretary to former Terengganu menteri besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh, who was detained yesterday for investigations into the sending of threats through the short messaging service, has been released.

Terengganu deputy police chief SAC II Hamzah Mohd Jamil said Ahmad Ramzi was released on police bail this morning after police recorded his statement.

He also said that police seized another laptop which was taken from Ahmad Ramzi’s house in Kota Damansara, Selangor early today, in addition to the two laptops and a modem, which were seized at his house in Kampung Kubang Parit here on 11 May.

He said Ahmad Ramzi was investigated for criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication, for defamation and other offences under Section 233 of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Ramzi was seen leaving the Terengganu police headquarters at about 9.20am and was then accompanied by relatives and friends to a waiting silver Mercedes Benz.

He was arrested here at about 8.30am yesterday, a day after a warrant of arrest was issued against him.

The SMS threat issue took centre stage last month following reports lodged by three Barisan Nasional assemblypersons — Datuk Rosol Wahid (Ajil), Abdul Halim Jusoh (Permaisuri) and Zakaria Abdullah (Paka). — Bernama
