PUTRAJAYA, 10 Oct 2008: The fee for international passport applications may be reduced next year to ease the financial burden of the public, said Director-General of Immigration Datuk Mahmood Adam.
He said the department was planning to submit a proposal on the matter to the government before the year’s end.
The reduction in fees was possible following the usage of new security features including those of nano-organic ink technology, he told reporters at the department’s monthly gathering here today.
Presently, the fee for new applications and renewal of the international passport is fixed at RM300 and exception is only given to the disabled while the fee for students studying abroad and children below 12 is fixed at RM150.
Mahmood said at the same time, the department was also planning to enable online application for the public’s convenience. — Bernama
