IPOH, 30 July 2009: The previous Perak Rights and Privileges Committee headed by embattled state assembly speaker V Sivakumar can no longer hold a meeting as it was deemed dissolved after the 7 May assembly sitting.
State assembly secretary Abdullah Antong Sabri said the committee was valid for only one term and it ceased to function after the state assembly entered a new term.
“New committee members were appointed during the meeting of the second term on 7 May. As such, the previous committee chaired by Sivakumar is no longer valid,” Abdullah said when contacted today.
Ganesan He said Datuk R Ganesan was appointed the new state assembly speaker and chairperson of the Rights and Privileges committee during the sitting.
The new committee members appointed then were Datuk Hasbullah Osman (Temengor-BN), Datuk Rusnah Kassim (Hulu Kinta-BN), Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Mutalib (Slim-BN), Datuk Nasarudin Hashim (Bota-BN), Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi (Tualang Sekah-BN) and Ong Boon Piow (Tebing Tinggi-DAP).
At about 10am today, the police denied Sivakumar and his committee members entry into the Perak state secretariat to conduct its meeting.
Except for Hasbullah, who was also a member of the previous committee, the other members from the previous committee turned up this morning. They were Husin Din (Selingsing-PAS), Chan Ming Kai (Simpang Pulai-PKR), Loke Chee Yan (Kepayang-DAP), Ong Boon Piow (Tebing Tinggi-DAP) and Sum Cheok Leng (Bercham-DAP).
Sivakumar State principal assistant secretary (management services division) Shamshuzaman Sulaiman met Sivakumar at the Perak Darul Ridzuan complex’s main gate.
Shamshuzaman conveyed a directive from state secretary Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Hashim that the committee was barred from holding its meeting at the complex as it was no longer valid and relevant.
Sivakumar planned to chair a committee hearing against the Barisan Nasional-installed speaker, Ganesan, for “usurping the functions and role of the speaker in the House”.
Sivakumar and his committee members tried in vain to enter the building on the pretext of going to the canteen and the toilet before dispersing at 11.30am. — Bernama

SUK and Bernama staff should not be involved in spreading propaganda as seen in this so-called “news report”. Everyone saw the 7 May pictures of the only legal Speaker, pending court cases, being dragged out illegally. Is this 1Malaysia?
