Appointment can resolve T’ganu crisis

April 25, 2009

KUALA TERENGGANU, 25 April 2009: The appointment of Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein as the new Terengganu Umno liaison committee chief is good to resolve the crisis of confidence in Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Said.

Former Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the appointment would also resolve the matter of appointing a Barisan Nasional state assemblyperson as the co-ordinator for BN state assemblypersons.

Idris, the Jertih state assemblyperson, said this would also resolve the appointment of village development and security committee (JKKK) members that had been denied to state assemblypersons by the menteri besar.

“I believe the party’s administration would be better and organised,” he said in a SMS note to Bernama here today.

He was commenting on the appointment of Hishammuddin, who is also Home Minister, as the Terengganu Umno liaison committee chief by Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak yesterday.

On 14 April, 10 BN state assembly reps refused to attend the state assembly sitting, citing threats to their safety.

Their actions were linked to threatening SMSs received by three BN state assemblypersons of Permaisuri (Abdul Halim Jusoh), Paka (Zakaria Abdullah) and Ajil (Datuk Rosol Wahid) on 13 April related to the political crisis in the state.

The issue is believed to have come about after the menteri besar made a statement that he would sack any BN state assembly rep if he tabled a motion of no-confidence against him. — Bernama

    Dear All,

This is an extract of a report by an independent journalist which shows that the Election Commission is just pro BN! If you support this report, please cut and paste on every group in all BLOGS and place in this world. Thank you.

“The same views have been echoed by no less than the Election Commission (EC). Plus, the EC has openly supported proposals by some BN leaders such as Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz, Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir and Tan Keng Liang to prevent ‘unnecessary’ elections. These include suggestions for stricter laws, and penalties for elected reps or their parties should an elected representative resign for reasons other than what’s stated in Article 48(1) of the Federal Constitution.”

Editor’s note: I don’t know if this is a bit of a Twilight Zone moment for us – this independent journalist in question is of course The Nut Graph’s very own Jacqueline Ann Surin. We appreciate that our writers’ analysis is current and relevant enough for the public to take such an interest in.
