S’wak MACC: 90% claims false

SIBU, 20 Feb 2009: About 90% of Sarawak’s corruption cases reported to its Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office last year, centred on false claims.

State MACC director Samsiah Abu Bakar said the claims also involved non-existent projects, adding that making false claims were serious offences under the MACC Act 2009.

She was speaking to reporters after witnessing a handing over of duties ceremony from acting Sibu office head senior superintendent Hamzah Sepawi to assistant commissioner Hasbillah Mohamad Salleh today.

Samsiah said the commission was prepared to help government department heads and the general public if they needed advice over any matter.

In his speech, Hamzah said Sibu MACC enforcement officers made 21 arrests, resulting in four people being charged in court. — Bernama
