Prisoner escapes from Kamunting detention camp

IPOH, 11 Dec 2008: A prisoner has escaped from the Kamunting Detention Camp in Taiping while carrying out his duty for its dairy unit today.

Taiping police chief ACP Raja Musa Raja Razak said the warders discovered the man, who is in his 30′s, had gone missing at 1.35pm.

Police have launched an operation to track down the convict who is serving time for drug and robbery cases, he said when contacted today.

The man, who is from Banting, Selangor, began serving his prison time in September last year and due to be released in April next year.

Raja Musa denied rumours that an Internal Security Act (ISA) detainee had escaped from the camp. — Bernama
