Police ban tonight’s assembly in Simpang, Taiping

IPOH, 19 March 2009: Police have warned the public not to participate in the assembly that Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) plans to hold in Simpang, Taiping, about 95km from here, tonight because it does not have a permit.

Taiping OCPD ACP Raja Musa Raja Razak said it was not suitable to hold an assembly at that place because it was near the main road and could affect traffic flow and public safety.

“Police will take stern action against those who stage or participate in the assembly,” he said when contacted today.

Police personnel would be deployed to the area to prevent any untoward incident, he added. — Bernama
