Norman, Memey plead not guilty to “khalwat”

KUALA LUMPUR, 20 Jan 2009: Popular actor Norman Hakim and upcoming actress Memey pleaded not guilty in the Gombak Timur Syariah Court here today to having committed “khalwat” (being in close proximity), last October.

Norman whose real name is Mohamed Norhakim Zaidon, 33, and Memey (real name Suhaiza Suhaimi), 21, were alleged to have committed the offence at 4-1A, Jalan UP 1/2 Taman Ukay Perdana, Hulu Klang, at 3am on 30 Oct.

If convicted, they can each be jailed up two years or fined RM3,000.

Both of them, dressed in matching black and white attire, were calm when the charge was read out to them before Syariah Judge Wan Mahyuddin Wan Muhammad.

Wan Mahyuddin set bail at RM3,000 in one surety for each of them and fixed 3 March for the trial.

Outside the court, both Norman and Memey told reporters they would be appointing Syariah lawyers for their defence. — Bernama
