Nik Aziz denies ceramah was seditious

KOTA BARU, 26 June 2009: PAS spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat today denied that a ceramah he gave in Laloh, Kuala Krai on 21 June was seditious in nature.

He said the ceramah did not contain anything new, and that he was merely repeating what he had often stated.

“It could be [interpreted as seditious] because I said nationalists and communists were the same in a figurative way.

“It is the same with deviationist teachings, [to me,] all concepts that reject Islam, we call it deviationist. Not only now, during the time of Prophet Muhammad, his companion Abdullah Bin Ubai was not given the honour of being a Muslim brother because he did not have faith in Islam,” he told Bernama here today.

Nik Aziz, who is also Kelantan menteri besar, was asked to comment about the police report lodged against him by Kelantan Umno Youth chief Anuar Safian yesterday over the ceramah in Laloh. In his report, Anuar had complained that the remarks made by Nik Aziz were seditious in nature.

Gua Musang Member of Parliament Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah had also commented that Nik Aziz’s statements could “confuse the people”.

On the police report, Nik Aziz replied, “It’s okay, it’s fine with us (PAS). We are ready to answer.” — Bernama
