Man watching ‘kavadi’ procession killed

IPOH, 10 Feb 2009: A man watching a ‘kavadi’ procession with his two young boys was slashed to death in Medan Kidd early this morning.

Ipoh police district chief, ACP Azisman Alias, said S Savarimuthu, 37, from  Taman Desa Pakatan here had serious head and chest injuries and died on the way to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

Azisman told reporters here today the incident happened at 3am when the victim was the watching the procession and three men attacked him with machetes.

He said Savarimuthu’s two children aged 12 and 14 were not harmed, adding that police recovered two machetes at the scene.

Police have appealed to witnesses to contact the Ipoh police district headquarters at 05-2451500.

No motive has been established and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, police found the body of a 21-years old male student with injuries on his chest and hands in his rented room in Taman Merdeka. He is believed to have committed suicide.

Azisman said Teh Teik Leng was found at 7am yesterday after police received a call from the victim’s neighbours.

He said police will call his friends to establish the motive. — Bernama
