King consents to Christopher Wan’s appointment as EC member

KUALA LUMPUR, 20 Aug 2008: Former Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk Christopher Wan Soo Kee has been appointed as a member of the Election Commission (EC).

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan announced in a statement today that the appointment of Wan, 57, received the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong as stipulated in the Federal Constitution.

Wan’s appointment, to fill a vacancy in the EC following the death of Dr Chu Ling Heng on 5 Feb 2008, will be effective from the date he reports to the EC, and his tenure will be till the age of 66, in line with provisions in the Federal Constitution.

Wan retired from the police force on 9 Jan 2007 and was reappointed CID director on a contract basis for one year, from 10 Jan 2007 till 9 Jan 2008. – Bernama
