Ex-Customs controller charged with receiving RM50,000 bribe

KLANG, 25 Aug 2008: A former customs controller was charged in the Sessions Court here today with receiving a RM50,000 bribe from a vehicle delivery agent five years ago.

Rosmina Omar, 46, who was then attached to the customs warehousing branch at Port Klang, pleaded not guilty to receiving the money from Adnan Abas, a delivery agent of Zaifa Otomobil Sdn Bhd, because of her position.

Rosmina’s official duties included assessing the customs duties on a car brought into the country through the Tamaddam warehouse by Zaifa Otomobil.

She is alleged to have committed the offence at the Pandamaran sports complex in Port Klang in January 2003.

If convicted, she faces a maximum two years jail or a fine, or both.

Judge Aslam Zainuddin allowed bail of RM8,000, impounded her passport and fixed 13 Oct for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor from the Anti-Corruption Agency Mohd Taufik Khamis appeared for the prosecution while Rosmina was represented by counsel Muhammad Faiz Fadzil. – Bernama
