Dr M receives cert for Apanama yacht

LANGKAWI, 7 May 2009: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today received the registration certificate for his yacht “Apanama”.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat who presented the certificate to Mahathir said registration of the 100th yacht was made under Langkawi international boat registration system.

The yacht “Apanama,” being built by a local company is scheduled for completion by September.

Ong said Mahathir was responsible for creating the international boat registration system and for making Malaysia a world yacht destination.

“We hope to register 150 yachts by year end, including those of mega size,” he added.

Launched in 2003, international boat registration has received good response from the local and international maritime communities. — Bernama
