“Declassify all PKFZ-related documents”

5 Nov 09 : 7.38PM

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 Nov 2009: The government was today asked to declassify all documents related to the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) to provide a clearer picture on the scandalous mega project.

PKR strategic director Tian Chua (PKR-Batu) and William Leong (PKR-Selayang), in calling for the declassification, said the real culprits behind the scandal might not only be confined to former Transport Minister Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy and retired Port Klang Authority general manager Datin Paduka OC Phang.

"More people could be involved," Chua told a press conference at Parliament's lobby today.

Leong, who is also a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), expressed disappointment that questions he had posed to Parliament on the project were rejected on the grounds of cabinet confidentiality.

Yesterday, the PAC had recommended that Chan and Phang be investigated for criminal breach of trust over the scandal.

The PKFZ created controversy when its cost of development ballooned from RM2 billion to RM4.6 billion. — Bernama
