Batang Ai assemblyperson passes away

KUCHING, 24 Feb 2009: The state assemblyperson for Batang Ai in Sarawak, Datuk Dublin Unting Ingkot, passed away this morning at 1.25am after being in a coma following a stroke nine months ago.

Ingkot was Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) vice-president and also Sarawak Deputy Sports and Agriculture Minister.

Following his death, a by-election will have to be called for his constituency within 60 days.

Two by-elections are already scheduled for 7 April for the Bukit Gantang parliamentary seat in Perak and the Bukit Selambau state seat in Kedah.

Another by-election in the Bukit Lanjan state seat in Selangor may also be held if assemblyperson Elizabeth Wong’s resignation over the circulation of intimate photos is accepted by her party, Parti Keadilan Rakyat. — Bernama
